Profiling the Philadelphia 76ers

Storyline: The 76ers have lots of raw talent and loads of potential. But at 0-14 (as of 11/23/15) all we can do is cheer and wait.

The 76ers are now 0-14 after a heartbreaking loss against the Miami Heat. The Sixers held a lead through 1:23 in the 4th Quarter. They just couldn’t finish.

With a 0-14 record you’d obviously think, “This team sucks!” Well, you’re right and wrong at the same time. A young team, the players show crazy talent and the potential to win games. Take Jahlil Okafor. He’s producing at 18.1 PPG, 7.5 Rebounds, and 1.3 assists with multiple 20+ point games. And he’s just a rookie. How about Nerlens Noel? He’s at 11.2 PPG, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists (excluding the last game). These two players anchor this young squad.

Then there’s Robert Covington, who had a big night in the last game–21 points, 6 rebounds. Isaiah Canaan has also shown potential at 9.3 PPG (22 points in the last game). The thing he needs to work–and the whole team does, tool–is consistency. Jerami Grant is also another player showing potential at 10.5 PPG and 4.8 rebounds. At 6’8 and 210 lbs he’s a player to watch. And imagine this team if it had Joel Embiid. I still don’t think the team should’ve drafted Embiid–mainly because it could’ve had Julius Randal or Zach Lavine instead–but you can’t change the past.

For the future I think the Sixers should go for Kevin Durant, but reality is that he’ll likely stay in OKC or go to DC. So the Sixers should try for Mike Conley, Harrison Barnes, or Chandler Parsons. Lebron is also available after this season, but that possibility is a pipedream. That means the NBA draft is going to be huge for the Sixers, where the team has five–yes, five–1st Round picks. The team needs a point guard. The other four picks can be traded or used wisely.

Hopefully we’ll see an improved 76ers next year. But, for now, let’s cheer them on and hope they win. This team has potential, but the challenge is executing.

1,2,3,4,5,6ers. 10,9,8,76ers. Let’s go Sixers!
