Storyline: Roger Goodell will be cheering for Peterson this year. A 2500-yard rushing challenge may be the NFL’s ticket … to hasten healing from a tough 2014 season.
Adrian Peterson could help heal the league’s image by achieving his goal of rushing for 2500 yards. That’s because the NFL looks like the one that received a beating in an elevator.
Peterson blew out his ACL a few years ago. One year later we watched this future Hall of Famer challenging the single-season rushing record in the final game–against rival, Green Bay Packers, no less. The game is tied and playoff aspirations are in the air, but the problem is this: AP needs 8 yards to reach the record and there’s 11 yards left to get a TD. Third down comes and Christian Ponder decides to throw instead of going to his Golden Goose.
Peterson ended the season just shy of achieving the mark. But his accomplishment proved that ACL injuries can’t stop dreams or MVPs aspirations. AP became a “recovery” role model.
Once again Adrian Peterson will need to prove that setbacks can’t push him down. And this league really needs redemption. It’s a league fighting a star QB over deflated footballs. It’s a league getting heavily involved in a variety of legal issues.
Adrian Peterson is the NFL’s best bet to show that injustices can’t hold it down. Peterson showed that “career-ending injuries” can’t stop him. But can he rise again and show immunity to blood-sucking lawyers?
