Storyline: Along with the win and a 2-1 lead, Lebron has managed to surpass Jerry West for most points scored in the first 3 games of a NBA Finals.
The Finals are looking to be the Series everyone thought it would be: highly contested with hard fought games. There are ups and downs, especially for the Warriors.
Despite only leading by 4 at the end of the 1st, the Cavaliers were in control. They were contesting every shot and playing like they had something to prove, which they do: that they could compete and, ultimately, win.
By halftime Cleveland was boasting a 7-point lead. How did they get there? LeBron James.
James was well on his way to yet another Triple Double. He put up 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. He was well on his way to surpassing the 118 points that Jerry West scored in the first 3 games of the ’69 Finals. With 24 minutes left LeBron had 23 points.
The 3rd quarter started with more of the same. The East champs couldn’t, and wouldn’t, stop. Curry was generally quiet–10 points by the end of the 3rd. Dellavedova was doing his job and doing it well. He was keeping one half of the ‘Splash Brothers’ on lockdown.
On the other side, LeBron was continuing towards that historic mark: only 10 points away from the record by the end of the 3rd Quarter. The score: 72-55, Cavs.
The last 12 minutes was a MAJOR change of pace. Stephen Curry came back to life, scoring 17 of his 27 in the 4th. That output sparked a Warriors comeback. Despite the large deficit early on, the Warriors made it a 1-point game with 2:45 left to play.
But they couldn’t get any closer. LeBron and Co. kicked it back up to 11.
Along with the win and a 2-1 lead, LeBron managed to surpass Jerry West for most points scored in the first 3 games of a NBA Finals series. LeBron had a very impressive 123 points.
Final Score: 96-91.
