Football has been over for a about four months, and the NBA and NHL seasons are winding down in the playoffs. One sport is about to stand alone. Thank heavens it’s Baseball.
Jeter is gone. Harper and Stanton are crazy good. Abreu is trying to keep it going. Braun is making amends. And the Royals are really chippie.
The beauty is there’s much more to come…the All-Star Weekend in Cincy, the trade deadline, the season’s last month…when every game is crazy. Then there’s the first three rounds of playoffs when everything is crazier, followed by The Fall Classic when it’s the craziest of all.
Who knows what’s in store? Maybe Ichiro retires. Maybe Javier Baez emerges as a star. Maybe a big suspension comes out of nowhere. Maybe we’ll see three guys hit three homers in a game. Maybe we’ll get lucky and see a Yankees-Red Sox brawl. Maybe Rivera makes a comeback. And, just maybe, we’ll see Jason Bay re-emerge as a star (Ha!)!
The beauty of MLB baseball is you never know what you’ll see next. As Bob Feller once said: “Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday’s success or put its failures behind and start over again. That’s the way life is, with a new game every day, and that’s the way baseball is.”
No matter what, there’s always tomorrow … and there’re are always tomorrow’s in that beautiful season called “Major League Baseball.”
