Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, arguably the most explosive player in the National Football League, has been the the circle of trade talks as of recent. The rumors grow and change each day. At first, I thought Jackson was the type of player/person that may let the rumors get to his head and ruin his mentality but he has proven to me that there is an off-the-field DeSean, that is very much different from his on-the-field persona.
Since the rumors started neither Jackson nor the Philadelphia Eagles organization has said much of anything to clear up exactly what the situation is and where it’s heading. At one point almost every story about Jackson had it reported he will “100% not be playing for the Eagles in 2014,” yet still no deal has been done. I believe most of the trade rumors are falsified and over-hyped by the media. Unless there is a “No Trade Clause” in a players contract any player is possible to be traded if the right offer comes along.
Do you think if the Patriots were offered Calvin Johnson and two or three first to second round draft picks for Tom Brady they wouldn’t do it? If so, you’re wrong and/or probably a Patriots fan. The Philadelphia Eagles have probably listened to dozens of trade proposals regarding DeSean, but you have to get the right offer to give up the fastest player in the league, who is also coming off a Pro Bowl season in which he caught 82 passes for over 1300 yards. All that with the No. 2 wider receiver Jeremy Maclin out for the season due to injury, and helped lead Philadelphia to the playoffs in Chip Kelly’s first year as Head Coach.
Knowing the way they like to run his offense, it wouldn’t make much sense to trade Jackson. Not to mention Philadelphia fans (most of them anyway) still want to see 10 Mode in Eagles green this year and for many years to come. With Maclin coming off injury and the acquisition of Darren Sproles the Philadelphia Eagles are more explosive now more than ever.
The Philadelphia fan base is one of the most brutal group of people in the world. The Eagles have been to two Super Bowls, they lost both, and this year could be the year to win it. If you look what they did last season and how they’ve improved. Trading Jackson could potentially destroy those chances.
I speak for the city of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Eagles fan base when I say, we would truly appreciate a Superbowl Ring on our resumè and I don’t see that happening without DeSean Jackson on the roster.
