Both the Knicks and Nets are struggling right now, but they can still make the playoffs. The East is really bad; there are only three teams with a winning record (Heat, Pacers and Hawks) as of right now. The Knicks stand at 10-21, while the Nets sit at 11-21. Both only two games out of a playoff spot, have dealt with injury issues all season, but the Nets have different problems.
Brooklyn is a win now team with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, but have a tougher road ahead as they just lost C Brook Lopez for the year due to a broken foot. Both Lopez and PG Deron Williams are their young stars, yet cannot keep there bodies healthy enough to consistently remain on the court. Though, I do think that this team can get better if they play hard every night, but that may effect them come playoff time, with an aging roster, so they need to find a solution fast.
The Knicks have a little more room of error, because they youth is on their side. Carmelo Anthony’s contract ends this offseason and he’s going to leave if the Knicks don’t win. Tyson Chandler just returned and Raymond Felton is returning soon as well, so they can get back on track within the coming weeks. But if they don’t a lot of trade speculation will go around, which may have an affect on the way the players perform. Concerns are they will have trouble communicating and moving on the court because they have to been on court together for an extended period of time.
Overall I think both teams can get better and make the playoffs but the Knicks have a stronger chance, with the young talent they have coming off the bench.
