NFL Football has been in Minnesota since 1961. lt hasn’t been in Los Angeles since 1994. Minneapolis is part of the 16th largest metropolitan area in the US. LA itself comprises most of the 2nd largest market in the country. Vikings Stadium and Farmers Field in LA are both set to open in 2016, with the former being a new home for the Vikings and the latter being a tool to help lure and NFL team to the City of Angels.
Why is all this information important? Because it is absolutely necessary to know when looking over the move the Vikings need to take to LA. It’s not simply that the colors on Adrian Peterson’s jersey match those on Kobe Bryant’s. The Vikings are moving out anyway, why not take them to a stadium that will open at the same time in a bigger market? To be frank, Los Angeles needs football more than Minnesota does.
If the Lakers could move from Minneapolis to LA in 1960, when the cities were a fraction of what they are now, why can’t the Vikings do the same. Roger Goodell himself said that LA needs a team. Well, forget about expansion, all you have to do is pick up Leslie Frazier and his team and plop them down on South Figueroa Street.
