Juan Mata and Lionel Messi – these two names are equally fascinating for me, I like the way both play and give their 100% contribution always. But today’s focus is on Mata. Most of his fans are always expecting a worthwhile contribution from him.

Messi belongs to Barcelona & is a native of Argentina, whereas Mata, a Spanish delight, is backbone of the frontline of Chelsea. At the age of 25 he has already established himself as a cool & composed player, especially in the premier league. He has proved to be a good creative mid fielder. He had been chosen as best young player for the season 2007-08, followed by the player of the year award in 2011 while playing for Chelsea. He was able to repeat the same performance in the consequent year. This was a rare honour for a young footballer.

Also, he got another feather in his cap, when along with his senior teammate Torres, he had the privilege of being the 1st player to have won all the four major championships (Euros, World Cup, Champions League and Europa League). Interestingly, it was Torres who motivated Mata to join Chelsea, resulting in amazing performance by Mata in the EPL. He wears no. 10 jersey which is apparently proving very lucky for him.

He has already represented Spain 7 times. Remarkably, his father had also played football – for Burgos CF (So it is a genetic virus!). Also, table tennis is another activity that gives him pleasure, apart from soccer. While playing for Chelsea, I have noticed he had a perfect tuning with Drogba, who used to convert the passes originated by Mata into goals.

What appears most fascinating about Juan is that he has got fabulous team spirit, be it as a young man of 16 playing in 2004, or as a mature player of Chelsea striking in 2013. He is a keen observer of the movement of the ball on the field and is always there at the right place at the right time to grab chances. Plus he has got intense fighting spirit as even if he loses the ball, he keeps chasing the opponent till the end.

His reflexes on the field are superb, and he is one of the quickest players, especially while counter-attacking. He is so dependable for the teammates that his presence always strengthens the attack and he plays a vital role in providing the roadmap for the victory of Chelsea.

He is also famous for creating opportunities for others on the field. Mata is amazingly fit for any situation, from taking a free-kick; corner, to a penalty kick. He becomes the first choice for any team by virtue of his excellent output. On most of the occasions we appreciate Mata for successfully executing and utilising crosses.

He has already won a number of trophies with Chelsea including FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League. The major one missing is the EPL, which he would target next year.

He is so dedicated to the cause, that most of the times his direct contributions on the field result in yielding a positive outcome for the team. A friend of mine who is a hard-core fan of Mata expressed his love & exclaimed “he is perfect role model for the young aspirants”. True, mate we agree. What else do I say about this vibrant, energetic, hardworking, totally composed & committed young player? It is truly wonderful to follow Juan Mata. To me it is a kind of a privilege of a lifetime. Wishing him a wonderful Confederations Cup (he is going to outshine others). I can say with total confidence that he will fetch Juan more trophy. Amen.
