Free Fantasy Tip: Practice

,

With Drafts getting underway for the next couple weeks, there are a few things you can do to be prepared to take control of your league.  I will be dropping some tips fro the next week on how to get a leg up on your competition. My first tip may be the most important though, so listen up.

PRACTICE

The old adage that practice makes perfect is definitely relevant when it comes to fantasy football as well.  ESPN offers a free way to warm up for your big draft day.  They have a full mock draft lobby, that runs 24/7 (so you can do it anytime), where you can practice against other fantasy players.  You can tailor that mock to your draft policies; whether it be the amount of teams (8,10 or 12) and type of draft (Auction or Snake).

Now when doing your draft, your goal is not to steal players, because in the end it really doesn’t matter who you pick up (it is just a mock after all).  The goal is to really see where players are getting picked.  You should gather an idea of where you can snag a QB or RB or WR; this will ensure your not jumping to far ahead for a player that you can get two rounds later.

The Mock will also help you establish who your late rounds sleepers can be.  You may think someone will be available in round 10 but is actually going in the 7th; the same can go for the opposite.  You may have a sleeper that you want to jump on in Round 10, but can actually grab in the 12th.  This will save your roster, so your not scrambling for a 4th WR or RB, when there is basically shit left in the last couple rounds.

Finally, a mock will help you develop your draft strategy.  You may want to go RB or WR heavy and knowing what rounds to look at those positions will be crucial, so your not stuck with players you simply were avoiding.  If you want two top flight RBs and WRs, you should understand that the first four rounds are your best bet.

Again, I preach that you try several mock drafts (I try to do at least for every draft slot), in order to garner a full understanding of fantasy value.  Make sure to check out ESPN’s Mock Draft lobby and keep practicing. Plus its free so why not?!
