NFL Fantasy Avoid List (Part 1)

,

As everyone is setting their draft boards and prepping for another Fantasy season, there is certain players that you should avoid.  Though some of these players may be highly rated or had good years in the past, they are simply overvalued from where they will be selected.  It would be wise to just skip over these fantasy busts, unless they become available much later in your draft.

Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard (RBs Indianapolis Colts)

Both players are intriguing when looking at their stats from last season.  Bradshaw had a 1000 yard year, even in an injury-plagued season.  While Ballard also spent some time on the sidelines, but had a promising rookie campaign (leading the Colts in rushing). The problem arises as neither player is really valued as a No. 1 back at this point in their careers.  Add in the fact that they will most likely be splitting carries down the middle, in a pass-happy offense, and this tandem is a Fantasy nightmare.  Now both do have injury concerns, so if one does go down, the value could go up for the other.  The problem there; you simply don’t know which one, if not both, will end up on the injury report.

Eric Decker (WR Denver Broncos)

Decker had a breakout season, playing with All-World QB, Peyton Manning, for the first time.  His age and 2012 numbers predict another strong season, where he would continue to grow into the Broncos offense.  His problems come about with the team’s offseason acquistions; Wes Welker and Montee Ball.  Welker is a catch machine and will likely take away many opportunities across the middle and in short yardage, which Decker thrived at last year.  Adding a young, workhorse back will also take away touches from Decker, as the Broncos will be inclined to become more of a balanced offense.

Eddie Lacy (RB Green Bay Packers)

Over the past several seasons, we have seen mixed results from rookie RBs from Alabama.  All (Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Eddie Lacy) are big, physical backs, that will only succeed with consistent touches.  Lacy is in a nice situation, in a team standpoint, playing for a winning franchise in the Packers.  But their offense has never been predicated on pounding the ball in the middle of the field, with no 1000 yard back since Ahman Green.  Add in the Packers taking another young stud in the draft, Jonathon Franklin of UCLA, and Lacy will likely be splitting carries with 3-4 players all season long.
