Here’s a quick heads up on what to expect in the next few hours regarding the state of the NHL season.
Both the NHL and NHLPA have to vote in favor of the new proposal, and, if all goes according to plan, training camps will open on Sunday. As soon as the votes are in and tallied, barring any last minute changes in thought, the CBA will then have to be ratified which could take until Saturday. It will most likely be a 48 game season starting on January 19th. There are no schedules out right now, but Washington Capitals General Manager George McPhee (GMGM) had said earlier this week that the Caps could either open up with two games at home or three games on the road.
Everything is coming together as it should and us hockey fans will have to be patient just a little while longer. The good news is there will be hockey this year and every single game counts.
In a regular 82-game season, if you get off to a good start it doesn’t necessarily mean squat. Last year at the half-way point the Minnestoa Wild were in first place and the L.A. Kings and N.J. Devils were at the bottom of the league, and we all know what happened after that. In a shortened season the first 10-15 games could mean the playoffs or bust. Every team will be battling for 48 games as if every game was a playoff game, and that is going to make for some exciting hockey.
More to come…
