After last week’s embarrassing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens will look to rebound against their beltways rival, the Washington Redskins. The Redskins are coming off a signature win on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants and are favored by 2.5 points going into Sundays match-up. In all reality that actually means the Ravens are favored, because the home team is always given 3 points.
Robert Griffin III has been incredible this season; if the Ravens hope to win on Sunday, they will have to find a way to contain him and eliminate his big play potential. Griffin alongside fellow rookie Alfred Morris combine to lead an innovative rushing attack that ranks #1 in the NFL. Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan has done an excellent job of creating an offensive system that highlights all of Griffins strengths and consistently puts him in a position to succeed. The “Pistol” offense coincides with the scheme he ran while winning the Heisman at Baylor.
While Griffin has been amazing, he is still a rookie and the Ravens defense will have to find ways to confuse him and disguise coverage. Ed Reed will be a key to a Ravens victory or defeat this Sunday. If he is able to bait Griffin into an interception or two, and give the Ravens offense a few extra possessions, Baltimore has a good chance to win. However if Reed misses assignments and gets beat on play action, the Ravens will lose. With games against the Broncos, Giants, and Bengals still left on the schedule, the Ravens desperately need to rebound and take care of business.
