Christmas Gifts: Brett Dickinson

, , ,

So as the Creator of this site, and the one with the Christmas gift idea.  I figured I would finish up the gift giving spirit; but before I share, I thought everyone would like to see the original assignment:

Hey guys,

So like Thanksgiving, I want us all to do an Xmas article.  My idea is simple and shouldn’t take longer than 20 minutes.

Basically just two paragraphs.  The first one do it as you could give a gift to any player/coach in any sport. Example would be Id like to give Andy Reid a job next year or Tim Tebow playing time.

The second would be a gift to any fanbase. Like giving the Jets a Quarterback or the Lakers team chemistry.

Let me know if you have any questions.  Try to get it by Xmas Eve but the earlier the better.

Brett

I am so glad to work with so many great minds but also great people, who have helped The Sports Column.  It would not be possible without their dedication in helping this site grow.  Thank you to all that have helped contribute over the past 6 months and I hope Christmas has been good for you and your family.

Now to get down to my article and gifts, the last go around, with my Thanksgiving article, I spoke of how much I appreciate the architect of this site, Jeffrey Powers, and his continued hard work for expanding The Sports Column’s potential.  I also mentioned my fiance, Brandie, who supports everything I do.  So my fan gift has those two specifically in mind, as they have one main thing in common, as both are die hard Washington Redskins fans.  As much as it pains me to do this, my gift for a fanbase is for the loyal supporters of the D.C. football team, with RGIII gaining the ability to stay healthy.

Anyone who knows me, can tell you how much I despise Mike Shanahan’s pompous ass.  He exposes his star rookie QB to added hits each drive by running a college offense in the NFL.  The poor kid gets smacked around all game long, and Shanahan could care less because the team’s winning record ensured him to hold onto his job this offseason.  RGIII has increasingly learned over the season to save his onwn ass by getting out of bounds and sliding more often, but his physical attributes and playing style are an exact replica of Michael Vick.  And I know for one how that has turned out.

As for my gift to a player, this is the homer pick but I would like to  give former NFL Safety, Brian Dawkins the gift of common sense.  Now this is not for him but the Hall of Fame voters who need to make the right call 5 years from now.  The decision should be easy, as Dawkins is a 9x Pro Bowler, 6 time All Pro, member of the All 2000’s decade team and the leader of one of the most winningest teams in league history.  Add in 778 tackles, 26 sacks, 28 forced fumbles and 37 interceptions, the writers should put in him first ballot withou any doubt.

If you look at what many believe to be one of the greats of all time (and most likely a sure fire first ballot player),  Dawkins has only 7 less takeaways, over 150 more tackles and 20 more sacks.  Dawkins should clearly be held to the same level as that player, who is Ravens Safety, Ed Reed.  So let’s hope the Hall of Fame voters believe so.

As everyone winds down from the Christmas rush, we at The Sports Column want to wish anyone who has looked us over in the past 6 months a Merry Christmas.  Stay tuned for our next group project with our New Year’s Resolutions.
