So after everyone that has helped in our Thanksgiving Sports Thank Yous, I figure, as the Creator of this site, I should post my own. After a full stomach, three football games and a couple of family arguments, I am finally ready to write up my own list.
Now my email to each Columnist went along the lines of:
Hey Everyone,
Lou Holder put together an article and thought it would be a great idea if everyone could do one similar by Thursday. I know I’m not an assignment guy but it really shouldn’t take you longer than 15 minutes to do. Basically just put a list together of the things you are thankful for in sports.
For Example, Lou mentioned, the Redskins having a franchise QB, Ted Leonsis taking over the Wizards and Caps, and Jim Lerner spending money on the Nationals.
This is the link to his article: https://www.thesportscol.com/2012/11/giving-thanks-lou-holder/
Please try to do this and get it in before Thursday afternoon. I really want everyone involved in this. I am also putting ideas together for Xmas and New Year’s articles that we can all do.
I am so happy for the response that I got and everyone did a wonderful job. Now I could go on with my own.
I could say Thank You for the Phillies and their dedication to winning, even in a down year. The franchise has made a World Series the final objective, and nothing else a reasonable result. Add in the fans at Citizens Bank Park, and the Phillies have risen to expectations since the 2008 Parade (which I had the privilege of attending).
I could also be thankful for witnessing Brian Dawkins entire career. I witnessed his last game as an Eagle live in person, his return to Philadelphia as a Bronco and his glorious retirement ceremony just a couple weeks ago.
I could be blessed that Notre Dame Football has made its way to the top of the BCS rankings for the first time ever. Manti Teo has been an inspiration and a new favorite player of mine, since his inception into South Bend. This magical season could end in a National Title, a Heisman Trophy and a new tattoo on my arm.
But all of that is great; I appreciate Lou Holder and the rest of the staff putting in their two cents. Mr. Holder Sports has been a great friend and I am glad to have forged a relationship with such a great father, co-worker and mentor. But that gets into my real Thank Yous for this feastful holiday. Only three things really matter in my life at this point.
I am thankful for my career. I love to brag about my ventures in Sports Journalism but it would not have been possible without the people that have carried me along the way. A personal thanks goes to those employers at the various outlets I have pursued my career in, as they gave me a chance to create something much bigger for myself. If you happen to see this, THANK YOU Gerry Sandusky, Amanda Chaffman, Peter Gilbert, Chris Daschelle, Lavar Arrington, Chad Dukes, Jimmy Mathis, Jim Byrne, Pamela Phelps, Nestor Aparicio, Glenn Clark, Luke Jones, Ryan Chell, Drew Forrester, Ashley Bishoff, Peter DiLutis, Paul Koepelke and Thyrl Nelson. It really is truly an honor to work alongside such great inspirations to the best profession a guy could ask for.
But the list has not stopped there. The Sports Column and this article would not even be available without the people that help out every day. My admiration for Jeff Powers is widely known; as he is the genius that put this all together for me. Also, Andy Stratton developed The Sports Column and deserves recognition for his impact on my life. I already mentioned Lou and his great contribution to my career but the rest include: Jim Chaney, Mike Fast, Luke Woods, Eric Mellin, Marcus from College Park, Andrew Bertram, Jeff Kryglik, John Sears, Dan Radov and Sara Heilman.
As for my second Thank You, it goes to my family and friends. It is repetitive and unoriginal to say this wouldn’t be possible without them, but I have officially realized how true that statement is. It is truly an honor to have a people in my life as important and as special as you.
Finally, and what is the most important to me, is THANK YOU to my fiancée, Brandie. You have supported my every move in my career and sports fandom (whether you agreed with it or not). I can only hope that I can take care of you the rest of my life. I appreciate you promoting me every chance you get, the time you take out of your day for me and the drive you give me to proceed with all this. You are my inspiration to continue what I do and I love you.
So there you have it. I hope everyone is stuffed and still going back for seconds. Happy Thanksgiving all.
