For the longest time around Washington, D.C., the Redskins have owned the fall. Not this autumn, however. They have company, as the Nationals clinched a playoff berth Thursday night. The building was electric as they defeated the Dodgers and you really do get the feeling that more electricity is coming this way.
This franchise has come along way from playing in RFK, the name spelled wrong on a jersey, the not paying taxes on the new park drama, the Jim Bowden regime and so on.
This is fall is going to be fun for so many reasons and for so many people, but I will be selfish and say that it is going to be the most fun for me and all my fellow media members who cover sports in the Washington, D.C., area. When you spend so much time at a ballpark or stadium, you always hope for a chance to cover a champion, a chance to report on a victory parade, a chance to see grown men act like little kids as they run around a clubhouse or lockerroom spraying each other with champagne
Here is hoping that the Nationals give that to us this fall. What excites you most about this team as they officially head into the postseason?
