As my 27th birthday has come, I have been lucky to have all that I do; a loving fiance, great friends and family and a career that I truly love. As I spent most of my life dedicated to sports, I have certain dreams that could make my birthday celebration the best it has ever been. This is my Top 5 Birthday wishes involving sports:
5. Host my own sports talk radio show: This has actually come true thanks to the great people at WNST 1570am (www.wnst.net) in Baltimore. My father got me hooked traveling back and forth from New Jersey as a child, as we would listen and discuss for hours. And though we may differ in opinions on many topics, he is my inspiration to pursue my career. When my own show begins soon (Saturday morning 8-12) it will truly be a dream come true.
4. Interview Former Philadelphia Eagle, Brian Dawkins:
Dawkins is my favorite athlete of all time, like many others who grew up Eagles fans in the late 90’s to the turn of the century. He is not only one of the greatest safeties of all time but a physical beast who laid it all on the line every Sunday. I wore #20 in high school football, playing safety, and played every down the same as Dawkins would. He is by far my biggest sports idol.
3. Dunk: This is basically a foregone conclusion that it will never happen, as a guy that has struggled with height issues his entire life (alright it’s not really an issue but when you’re a 5’8” white kid that stop growing around 15 years old, it is devastating), this has been a dream. Nothing could bring joy then throwing down an Alley Oop like Lebron James or giving a facial like Blake Griffin.
2. Hang out with Chad Johnson: I fell in love with this guy a long time ago, as his personality shines every time he is in the spotlight. Though some people don’t like his antics, he truly enjoys not only football but life in general; I try to to live my self the same way, in the now. He has brought famous quotes “Child Please” and “Kiss the Baby” into my life and I am left saying “more please.” I appreciate a person that can make people laugh out loud (literally, not this LOL text message bullshit); see picture to understand I am talking about.
1. Watch the Eagles win a Super Bowl: Now I know I cannot actually see this on my birthday, but if the Birds won just one championship, it would be a year-long celebration. The funny jokes would end (see picture) and I would witness an entire city all at once let out a sigh of relief. I love this team and it has broken my heart too many times over my short life. A parade down Broad Street is by far the ultimate gift that keeps giving.
Please don’t ever head butt me like Chad Johnson.
