On Monday Night, the Houston Defenders, an AAU team from Texas, filled with top recruits, took on a group of Baltimore All-Stars. Aaron Harrison dropped 35 points, while his brother Andrew scored 14 points and recorded 7 assists for the Defenders, but it was their teammate Derrick Griffin who was the best player on the court. He led the Houston Defender’s to victory last night againstthe Baltimore Elite, gaining bragging rights in the process. Griffin is the 50th ranked player in the class of 2013 and committed to Texas A&M earlier this year. Listed at 6’2, 217 pounds, Griffin plays much bigger and controls an assortment of low post moves that are rare for his age and size. His athleticism was startling, at one point scoring 8 straight points for the Defenders, 4 of which coming from highlight reel dunks.
Both Aaron and Andrew Harrison are listed as top 10 players in the 2013 recruiting class by ESPN; Andrew the #1 Point Guard, and Aaron the #2 shooting guard. While both have unlimited range on their jumpers and possess NBA frames, it was their body language that most glaring. Andrew was given a technical foul during the second period after a slight altercation with a member of Baltimore Elite, and both bickered with the referees throughout the game. Neither drew red flags in terms of their attitude by recruiters, but I was surprised to say the least. Andrew and Aaron are both undeclared but are being recruited heavily by Maryland, Kentucky, Baylor, Villanova, and SMU.
Kameron Williams was the star for Baltimore Elite’s squad. Undersized at only 6’2, Williams showed quick feet on defense and had excellent form on his jump shot, hitting a number of 3’s. Williams currently is ranked #68 on ESPN’s top 100 recruits of 2013 and has offers from Dayton, Villanova, and the University of Miami, among others.
This is my Notes from the Rafters.
